Ransomes 6NHP Traction Engine

On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale this very genuine and well maintained Ransomes Sims and Jefferies Traction Engine.

42035 is a 6NHP AG Compound Traction Engine manufactured in 1932 for agricultural dealers Arthur M Cole, she is believed to be one of a batch of 4 ordered by the company. The original log book shows the engine first registered in 1935 and sold to Messrs Reynold Bros of Norwich. The engine spent its working life in Norfolk with a couple of different owners before being sold into preservation to Mr J Vernon of Market Bosworth in 1962.

Mr Vernon went on to own the engine for the best part of fifty years and during his ownership the engine received extensive boiler work at McEwens in 1991. This work along with other repairs included a new flanged and welded firebox and boiler barrel as such, the boiler has many years of service left in it. In 2018 the engine had a 10 year inspection with hydraulic and successfully passed the annual steam test with no issues in March 2021. Water feed is through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector.

The engine is reported to be in sound mechanical condition with much work carried out in current ownership. The gearing is also in good condition and in early preservation years a 3rd speed was fitted for road use which allows a good turn of speed without having to spin up the motion too fast. She also benefits from some recent new front tyres and a set of quad tracks on the rears, the large band brake on the rear axle is also very effective.

To drive she is a very gentle engine which is easy to steam and handle. The engine is now only for sale as the owner has been offered an engine he has known of for many years.

As always we would be pleased to help with part exchanges where possible. Finance can also be arranged through our specialist broker.
