Fowler Showmans Tractor "Jubilee"

On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale the well-known showman’s conversion “Jubilee”, the engine received a full restoration in recent years and returned to the rally field in 2022.

Fowler 17290 was delivered to Aberdeenshire Turiff District Roads Department on 8th July 1927 and spent its working life in the area before being sold at auction in 1959. It was bought along with two other engines by John Boughton of Amersham. Boughtons converted the 3 engines into Showmans form in the early 1960s and with “Jubilee” being the first to be completed was the one most associated with the company with it appearing in the TT Boughtons book, it spent a considerable amount of time at their premises in Dartford. The engine was sold in the early 1980s and has changed hands a few times over the years, it is an engine we remember fondly from childhood as during its time in Bedfordshire she would often be providing the atmosphere generating outside the beer tent long after the “real” showmans has been sheeted up for the night.

As denoted by the canopy boards the engine has been owned and restored by the Glynn Family or Ireland, work throughout has been done to a very high standard with mechanical and boiler works being completed by the family and the stunning paintwork being entrusted to the specialists at Heritage Painting. Works have included:
- New Firebox crown and repairs where necessary
- New front end assembly with stainless steel liners in the smokebox and chimney
- Re-chroming of all parts
- New bellytanks and pipework
- New rubbers on the front wheels
- Re-wired canopy and new bulb holders
- New canvas sheets, governor belt and drive belt made to suit.

The engine is now presented in excellent mechanical and aesthetic condition and is ready for a new owner to jump on and enjoy. She is known as an easy engine to get along with and is as comfortable clocking up some miles on the road as it is generating in the showmans line up. Being such an early conversion the preservation history of the engine is just as important as the working history, at a time where engines where being cut up for scrap “Jubilee” was saved by Boughtons and has since brought many years of enjoyment for the owners and public alike.

For further information please do not hesitate to contact us, the engine is currently with the owners in Ireland and viewing by genuinely interested parties is welcomed. Where possible we would be pleased to help with part exchanges and finance can be arranged through our specialist broker if required. The owners would be open to a sensible offer a quick and hassle free sale.
