Aveling and Porter C-Type

On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale this lovely and very well sorted Aveling roller. The C-Type is classed as an 8 Ton single cylinder roller with piston valve cylinder arrangement. Perfectly sized for both single manning or with a crew these later designs of Avelings are known to be free steaming and easy to get along with. The balanced crankshaft and two speed road gearing means they get on well and can cover some impressive distances on the road (in roller terms)

10445 was built for The Eddison Rolling Company Ltd and worked from the Birmingham Depot as fleet number 430. Like most of their engines was specified with two injectors instead of a water pump, the coal rack which she still retains was also fitted from new. In 1979 the engine sold at the Great Dorset Steam Fair Sale and headed to Cornwall where she underwent full restoration and was given her name Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful) As part of the restoration a flywheel brake and sliding firing hole doors were fitted.

The boiler is reported to be in excellent condition having undergone major works in 2009 which included the replacement of the riveted firebox. She has just undergone a ten-year hydraulic inspection which included replacement of the timber lagging and a number of other general maintenance jobs sorted. Boiler reports from Dave Wothers are available for genuinely interested parties.

She comes ready to rally with a full set of firing irons, set of sheets which are in excellent condition, spark arrestor, a number of spares and scarifier which is not currently fitted. Where possible we would be happy to help with any part exchanges of all steam and vintage vehicles.
