6" Foden C-Type

On behalf of the owners we are pleased to advertise for sale this very well presented 6” Foden Compound Steam Lorry.

Originally built in 1995, the engine has just undergone an extensive overhaul and is now ready to rally and enjoy. For those who like to add a personal touch to their engines the cab sides have been left blank for the new owner to customise with their own signwriting.

The Foden has received a new load bed, made from quality Ash which has been oiled and painted for protection. The cab tins were soda-blasted back to bare metal and repainted to a high standard with Craftmaster paints along with most other parts of the engine. The drivetrain has also received much attention with a new differential being made from EN24 Steel and the rear axle modified from a single to a more prototypical twin wheel set up. The motion has also been overhauled with new big end shells and nice little touches also added such as the correct design of mechanical lubricator arm as per the full the size engines.

The boiler is reported to be in sound condition and has been tested by a well-respected independent inspector. Being compound the engine runs at 200psi and is an economical machine on both coal and water. Water feed is through a crank driven pump and reliable steam injector. During the overhaul several of the valves and fittings were also replaced. Please note the chime whistle shown in the pictures has now been replaced with a scale steam siren.

Half size Fodens are very popular engines and are particularly good for those with families or lots of friends who like to come along for the ride. The compound versions such as this one are particularly free steaming and make for great engines on the road and rallyfield.
