4.5" Plastow Burrell

We are pleased to offer for sale this well sorted 4.5” Burrell Traction engine, although an older model it looks to have done very little work over the years judging by the good condition of the gears and motion work.

Built to the Plastows design it’s a well-made and reliable example. These 4.5” Burrells are a popular engine and for good reason, they are a great all-rounder and easy to get along with. We owned one ourselves for many years and done countless miles on the road and rally-field. The wheels have vulcanised tyres which look to have only been fitted in the last few years.

The boiler is reported to be in good condition having had a ten-year inspection in 2019 and thickness readings of around 7-8mm taken on this year’s annual inspection. As is the standard arrangement water feed is through a crank shaft driven pump and steam injector.

The engine is supplied ready to rally with all the usual accessories, there are two options for driving seats with a hook-on single seat included as well as a side-by-side twin seat with swivel castors which works particularly well if you have children that would like to get involved driving the engine.

Overall this a pleasant Burrell which will give many more years of enjoyment, a days tuition is included in the sale and we would be pleased to help with part exchanges of all steam and vintage vehicles where possible.
