4" Garrett TE

Considering Garretts aren’t that common we have had a bit of a run on them recently, not that we are complaining they are generally a great engine and I would go as far to say this is the best of the bunch, it is also the newest having only been completed 4 years ago. Yes, she doesn’t have lagging and yes, the painted bits are dark colours but on a field of dolled up engines she is somewhat of a hidden gem which is made well and runs very nicely indeed.

The Garrett comes out a large and powerful engine, we have driven a few over the years and are always impressed with how well they go on the rallyfield and the road. Compared to the more common Foster and Burrell they come out a slightly larger engine and are also a bit quicker on the road.

Mechanically the engine has been very well looked after since completion, all the motion is nice and tight (in a good way) and she ticks quietly. Overall it’s a very well sorted engine that is a real pleasure to chuck a fire in and steam for the day.

The boiler was commercially built by Bell Boilers and is in very condition having had only 5 Years use, water feed is through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector. Working pressure is 120psi.

Rather than going down the vulcanised tyre route the previous owner opted for rubber strakes which are great for use on wet rallyfields and also on the road, some spares are supplied but I have been reliably informed they should not be needed as since being fitted a few years ago none have as of yet come a drift.

As with all our ready to rally engines it comes with a full set of firing irons, a days tuition, coal and oil plus a riding trolley for passengers. An 8’x5’ box trailer with winch, ramps etc is also available subject to separate negotiation should you wish to buy a complete outfit you can hook up and go straight to a rally with.

Should you require any further details please do not hesitate to contact us, part exchange of all steam and vintage vehicles welcome where possible.
