4" Burrell LSM Road Loco

We are pleased to offer for sale this impressive 4” Burrell Road Locomotive, built to a high standard and well looked after since completion it gives the feel of being a good solid engine which will just eat up the miles with the minimum of fuss.

Built to the LSM design, the 3 speed Burrell Double Crank Compound Road Locomotive comes out a considerably larger and heavier engine the single Single Crank Compound variation. This one seems to have a particularly heavy front end as even with two adults on the back and pulling away up hill the front wheels stayed planted to the floor. The engine comes with two driving seats, the large double shown in the pictures and a single person driving seat. Paint and lining has been done to a good standard and mellowed nicely, the builder went to the expense of getting the top works as well as the flywheel rim chrome plated which looks the part and also makes maintenance easier.

Fitted with a commercially built boiler from AJB Engineering, it received a full 10 year inspection, hydraulic test and annual steam test by an independent inspector in August this year. The safeties lift at 180 psi and water feed is through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector.

As you would expect it is a strong performer on the road and in 3rd gear allows you to cover the miles with ease. I found it a particularly easy engine to get on along for both driving and steaming so even if you are new to the hobby shouldn’t find it too intimidating to get to grips with.

The engine is road registered and comes ready to rally with the aforementioned driving seats, extension chimney, firing irons, coal, oil and a days tuition. As always we are happy to consider all steam and vintage vehicles part exchange and finance is available through our specialist broker.
