On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale this 1957 Merryweather Turntable Ladder Appliance. With a well-documented history this rare appliance will be no doubt be of interested to Fire Brigade enthusiast but also a great option for anyone looking for a practical and interesting commercial vehicle.

The underpinnings are an AEC Mercury chassis and running gear, the lorry is good mechanical condition with a smoke-free and powerful diesel engine. On the road she will comfortably average 50mph and in its current ownership has been driven to events all over the country under its own power including the Great Dorset Steam Fair and the Isle of Wight from its base in Bedfordshire. 18 months ago, the fuel pump and all injectors were professionally reconditioned.

The coach-built cab has space for 6 or 7 people so unlike most other vintage commercials it is practical and safe to bring your family and friends along for the journey. The rear body is predominantly aluminium cladding over a wooden frame, much of this over has been repaired/replaced over the years as and when required. The 100ft ladder assembly has been partly decommissioned yet can still put on an impressive display lifting the ladder mast and rotating but cannot be extended.

Overall the lorry is in very good mechanical and running condition, the cab and bodywork will need the odd bit of work here and there but none of this is particularly pressing or would be consider major, it could quite happily be done between events or as and when time allowed.

This is a well-known lorry and has been shown at many events, the owner informs us he has never struggled to get into a show in his 17 years of ownership. It is now for sale as the owner looks for something a bit easier to handle in his retirement years. Viewing is welcomed by genuinely interested parties, for any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch.
