Lykamobile Steam Car Project

We are pleased to offer for sale this Lykamobile steam car project. Originally built from the Steam Traction World kits this car has had a number of modifications with the most notable being the fitting of an original Locomobile engine.

The car come to us a number of years ago, she was running but needed quite a bit of work, we think it had been left outside for a considerable time as some of the panels were water damaged. The car was completely stripped down and chassis repainted, engine removed and given a bit of an overhaul with new packings etc and then started to go back together. Anyone who knows Lykas knows the electronics are somewhat troublesome so this was all removed with the intention of traditional sight gauges being the replacement. Virtually all the pipework for the water system has been replaced with new, some final connections are required but the job is pretty much done. In replacement of a crank driven pump the car has a steam pump for boiler water supply, not only is this a cool little feature but also really practical as it means you can pump water into the boiler when stationary. A handpump is also fitted.

We have just had the boiler inspected and hydraulic tested so it comes with a new report and written scheme from an independent boiler inspector. When the car is back up and running it will only need the normal annual steam test. We have shown the boiler removed in the pictures but this is now back in the car.

As noted a couple of the panels were water damaged but fortunately these are the easy ones to replace and cut from 19mm plywood, the originals are supplied as patterns. The rest of the bodywork is in pretty good condition and paint wise would only need a touch up here and there should you wish to keep the existing colour scheme.

This car really isn't far off being done, we have just got too much on in the workshop to actual get on with it! Realistically a couple of weeks work you will be up and running and ready for the rally season. The car comes with almost everything you need to finish as well as boxes of accessories like lamps, a hooter old car club badges etc. We would be happy to provide advice on the finishing it off with wiring options etc (simple but easier to explain in person rather than on here.) Also included is the new style pressure switch of the Lyka 2s. as well as a new pair of 12volt batteries.
