6" Foster Traction Engine

We are pleased to offer for sale this rare and stunning 6" Foster Traction Engine. One of only a handful of examples this engine has been built and finished to the highest standards. Finished in late 2024 it has had a seasons rallying so offers the new owner an engine in virtually new condition but with all the new build niggles sorted and it being nicely run in.

The Foster is a striking engine on the rally field and has been finished in the Foster "exhibition" 3 colour lining scheme. Most of the paintwork is in Craftmaster 2 Pack ensuring a durable and deep coloured finish with some areas done in their matched coach enamel. The top works have been bright chrome plated which not only looks great but is easy to keep.

The boiler was built by Gloucester Steam Traction Company with the supporting paperwork included, it has been tested by Hawkins Inspection Services from new and will come with a fresh annual steam ticket for the new owner. Water feed is by the crankshaft driven pump and the faultless Holroyd steam injector.

The half size Foster comes out a big engine, standing considerably larger than most 6" Burrells you see, despite it size it is a gentle engine to drive and easy to get along with. It is fitted with vulcanised rubbers by B H Leakes and as you can see on the photos the rears have had the strake pattern cut into them which not only looks the part but offers excellent grip on the rally field and a comfortable ride on the road.

The Foster comes with all the usual accessories including firing irons, driving seat, coal, oil and days tuition included if required. Available subject to separate negotiation is a 4 wheeled trailer/water cart for use behind the engine and a Renault 7.5ton lorry. The Renault underwent an extensive sort out and repaint last year and is now a very tidy truck for someone at sensible money and is the ideal solution for transporting a large 6" engine about. The Foster, trailer and lorry have only come up for sale as the owner has gone up to full size and another project looms.
