4" McLaren Showmans Engine

Now this is a showmans engine I can really get on board with! We are pleased to offer for sale this highly impressive 4" McLaren Showmans Road Locomotive. Completed in 2015 the engine was originally finished as a road loco with the Showmans fittings being a latter addition, switching between its two guises is a simple affair with the canopy lifting off and dynamo bracket bolted on with just 8 bolts.

The engine was completed and owned since by a highly competent engineer, it has been maintained to an excellent standard and everything on it has been well executed and thought-out. In typical Mac fashion it has effortless amounts of power which makes driving it a real pleasure, despite all that on tap she is a gentle engine to drive and even someone new to the engines would quickly get comfortable with. Talking about driving this is the first showmans engine with a canopy we have driven that looks the part but doesn't require you to be a contortionist to reach the controls or feel like you are just peering over the roof driving a narrow boat (if you have driven one you will know what I mean with this analogy)

Boiler wise it is in excellent condition having had a full 10 year and hydraulic test last year with plate thicknesses virtually as good as new reported. It has been tested under the commercial scheme and will come with a fresh annual steam test from an independent inspector. Water feed is through a crank driven pump, steam injector and a useful handpump for emergencies is also fitted.

The dynamo is a 12volt 30 amp unit which has voltage regulator for smooth power output. The canopy lights are all LED so draw minimal current. Behind the dynamo you will notice a small box, this houses a battery so that when the engine isn't being run the lights can still be enjoyed.

A professionally built 65 key scale organ is also available and can be sold separately to the engine. It comes housed in its own trailer for safe storage and transport. Together with the engine this is a real spectacle and really draws the crowds. The organ runs on 240volt but also comes with 2 large leisure batteries and an inverter which can run it for up to 9 hours on one charge or these batteries can be charged continuously by the McLaren when in steam. The Mac comes ready to rally and enjoy with a full set of firing irons, extension chimneys, firing irons, tube brush, coal, oil and a days tuition included. Also included is a custom fitted tarpaulin. It is all road-registered so good to go on that front.
