4" Fowler Road Loco

Every now and again we have an engine come through which is just really rather lovely, this Fowler R3 is one such engine. We had it in a few years ago where it was the star of the show on our stand at Great Dorset Steam fair and we are pleased to be trusted with the sale again.

"Sapphire" was originally completed in 2002 and underwent a full overhaul circa 2016, it remains in excellent condition having been well cared for by its previous owners. Over the years it has had a number of improvements over the standard Plastow design making it one of the best we have had the pleasure of driving, works have included increased boiler working pressure, increased ratio on the 3rd speed and improved valve gear.

Boiler wise it is reported to be in sound condition and a full paperwork folder of original build receipts, re-tube information and previous boiler tests is included. Boiler testing has been conducted under the Model Club scheme, any boiler inspection would be welcome by potential new owners and if a "commercial ticket" is preferred we can discuss this option with potential new owners. Water feed is through a crank driven pump, steam injector and nicely hidden hand pump.

The canopy can be quickly removed however even with it fitted driving is comfortable with an extended regulator and steering rod arrangement. This Fowler just seems to pull away effortlessly and even going up hills in top gear just seams to continue without any fuss, its really is a pleasure to drive and ticks over beautifully.

The engine comes ready to rally with a full set of firing irons, coal, oil, extension chimney and a days tuition if required. For more information on this stunning engine please do not hesitate to get in touch.
