4" Foster Traction Engine

We are pleased to offer sale this recently repainted 4" Foster Traction Engine, a stalwart of the rally-field the 4" Foster to the LSM design is well proven and an excellent all round performer that comes out slightly larger and heavier than the equivalent scale Burrell.

We are unsure of the exact age of the engine but the boiler was built in 1990, we expect the engine was finished considerably later than this and since completion the boiler has been well looked after. In 2023 the engine had a re-tube and underwent a commercial hydraulic and inspection with healthy thickness readings throughout, 6mm on the firebox crown, 10mm on the barrell etc, a copy of this is available for any genuinely interested buyers and any inspection is welcomed. As is the normal arrangement it is water fed by a crank driven pump and steam injector, working pressure is 125psi.

As mentioned above the engine has recently undergone a repaint and looks rather smart for it. Mechanically it seems in generally good condition throughout, there is a knock on the little end which you will hear in the video but we will be having a look at this before it leaves the workshop for its new home. Driving the engine it is as we expected of the design, free steaming, easy to get along with and with plenty of power for both use on the road and rally field.

Overall this a well presented engine which will give the new owner many years of enjoyment. As with all our ready to rally engines it will come with a full set of firing irons, extension chimney, coal, oil and a days tuition included if required.
