On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale this (we believe) unique 3" Fowler Steam Wagon, an interesting model the build featured as a series of in-depth articles in the Model Engineer Magazine in the early 00's.
Built by well-known model engineer Tony Webster, the wagon offers a great opportunity to study the unusual Fowler Design of using a compound V-Twin cylinder arrangement with piston valve valve gear. This drives the rear axle through a twin speed gearbox allowing the engine to be run out of gear for warming up and pumping water.
Look past the somewhat tired paintwork underneath is a well built and detailed model, it had an overhaul and various works last year at Craftmaster Restorations so is now running well and ready to be enjoyed. One of the nice features of a 3" Wagon is that you can actually sit on the engine to drive it rather than needing a driving trolley behind.
Over the years we have had a number of 3" Wagons of various designs in and like all the others we add the caveat that these are not the most rally-field friendly engines. They are ideal for a steam up and pottering around the local streets or car parks but the small wheels seem to struggle with the grass and rougher terrain.
The engine comes complete with a full set of firing irons, steam raising blower, coal, oil and a days tuition if required, also included is a long extension chimney for use when driving so you dont get a face full of smoke and steam!
Where possible we would be happy to consider all steam and vintage vehicles part exchange and delivery to both UK and further afield can be arranged if required.
For further details or to arrange a viewing please do not hesitate to contact us.
Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
