Built in 1978 this 3" Foden is one of the earliest miniature steam engines we have had come in, despite being almost 50 years old it looks to be in remarkably good condition runs well on compressed air.
The Foden is fitted with a steel boiler and due to its age and the fact no paperwork is available we have been unable to get it formerly boiler tested. We conducted an informal hydraulic test which showed no signs of deflection however thickness readings found the boiler too thin to enter formal service again. If you are looking for an engine for display or just to run on compressed air this could be ideal however anyone looking to steam it would have to satisfy themselves of it safety.
