This is the first one of these we have had in and I must say overall I am quite impressed, undoubtedly a pretty little model the Allchin was built by Kingscale / Silver crest, a supplier based in Daventry with engines ( I believe) being built out in the far east.

I think being sensible any engine in this scale is just that bit too small for regular use on the rally-field. However, for someone looking for an engine to enjoy pottering around the model club on a Sunday morning then having on display in the house during the week this could be ideal.

Supplied with a driving trolley, transport board for the car, a rather useful little ramp for getting onto a lift table plus all the normal engine bits and bobs included coal, oil, firing irons, tube-brush and 12volt blower it is a complete outfit ready to be enjoyed.

Kingscale models are sold as "ready to run" but it would be fair to say most owners find they have to do some tinkering and re-working to get a useable engine. This example has had lots of little improvements including:
- Strengthened crankshaft
- Improved blast pipe and nozzle
- Rear tyres re-glued
- Upgraded injector and pipework
- Nicer oak running board fitted

The engine now not only looks pretty but goes nicely as well. It is presented in excellent condition so arguably a better (and considerably cheaper) option than buying new with current prices being £6995 with none currently available. Details can be found here https://kingscalelivesteam.co.uk/traction/

It is worth noting the engine has been set up for running in forward, the tolerances on the valve gear from new leaves a little to be desired in terms of machining tolerances (something common on the kingscale models) as such the decision was made to get it running well in forward rather than comprising for reverse which will never actually be used.

The copper boiler is commercially built and from what we can see done to a really nice standard, boiler testing has been done by the local model-engineering club and for this scale it makes sense for the new owner to continue with this. We would be happy to suggest model-clubs in your area who could help with future testing if required.

Hopefully it doesn't come across as me knocking this engine, I do actually really like it and when on display at a recent rally it got loads of attention and nice comments from the punters. I just want people to understand these are a commercially built model so some aspects are not to the standard of some home-builders but thats not to say you cant have hours of fun with it!

Viewing is welcomed at our premises in Suffolk or we would be happy to help with delivery, both UK and export, if required. As always where possible we would be happy to consider steam or vintage vehicles part exchange.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information or to arrange a viewing.

Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
