On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale 8 ton Wallis and Steevens Advance roller works number 8058, a well presented engine it has just undergone an extensive boiler overhaul. The 8 tonners are arguably the most desirable Advance rollers, a bit more practical size wise than the larger 10 but easier to steam than the small boilered 6 tonners.
The engine was supplied new to Heanor Urban District Council in 1930, it entered preservation in 1979 and was extensively restored throughout the 80s. The boiler had a complete overhaul in 2023/24 with new firebox, backhead, throatplate, bottom sections of both horn plates, lower half of boiler barrel, tubes and smokebox.
Mechanically the engine is showing some signs of wear in the motion but is still perfectly useable for rallying and roading and any future work could be done on a rolling basis of improvement rather than a full strip down. For comfort and safety on the road the rolls have been rubbered, anyone who has driven an Advance knows they can nip along at a fair pace and with the rubbers fitted means so serious road miles can be covered in a day.
Included in the sale is full set of sheets, firing irons, drawings and original paperwork for the engine. Also available subject to separate negotiation are a set of lamps, water cart and additional roading trailer.
For further information or to arrange a viewing please do not hesitate to contact us. The engine is located in Scunthorpe with the owner however we can still help with part exchanges where possible and finance can also be arranged through our specialist partner.
Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
