This is a first for us, listing two separate vehicles on one advert but as they are the same thing and both built to similar high standards the choice really comes down to what colour you want.

We are pleased to offer for sale these Lykamobile steam cars, both cars came to use recently from two different builders. It is pretty much the same story with both, they arrived with us finished but un-steamed so they have been through our workshop and been commissioned for use, on the boiler inspectors next visit (middle of June) they will have a full hydraulic and steam test so ready for the new owner to rally and enjoy.

These cars are the new design from Steam Traction World, often known as the "Lyka 2" on first impressions you would think little has changed from the earlier series but underneath there has been a whole list of improvements including:
- The car is slightly wider and has a wider seat meaning two people can actually sit comfortably on it now.
- The upgraded valve gear design as standard on the engine
- All the troublesome electrics have been replaced with simple yet effective sight glasses
- Burners run on diesel rather than heating oil
- Improved pressure switches for a much quick response time.
- New boiler design,

The new boiler design is by far the biggest improvement on the Lyka 2, it is now a standard vertical tubed which unithas considerably larger water capacity/steam capacity. This makes for a much more relaxed driving experience with the water level being much easier to sustain and balance against the pressure when on the move. The new design also makes future maintenance much easier and future proofs it somewhat, the old design was basically unrepairable should a tube pop or something whereas the new one is the same as any other vertical steam boiler just with a diesel burner rather than a coal fire underneath.

Overall we have been really impressed with these new Lykas, they are an all round much more usable car than the old design without loosing any of the original charm. The party trick of turning on the burner and being in steam in 20 mins or so is still one of our favourite features and means a quick fire up and run out for the afternoon isn't a full event like it is on a coal fired steam engine.

On to these cars themselves, as noted above they are much of a muchness the main difference between the two is the black one has been built with turn-latches on the body-work for quick removal. Apart from that I would really struggle to tell you if either was the better of the two, both have been built to a very-high standard with good finishes throughout and are in effect brand new.

Also available by separate negotiation is Brian James enclosed car transporter trailer, a Lyka fits in it perfectly and being a lightweight single axle unit can be towed by a small family hatchback.

Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
