4" Foster T.E.

On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale this 4" Foster traction engine built to the popular LSM design. The engine has been through our workshop for some odd jobs and just successfully passed its steam test so is ready to rally but would benefit from some further fettling.

This Foster has generally been built to a good standard, it runs well with plenty of power and steams very freely. We would confidently take the engine to a rally and would be sure to have an enjoyable weekend however we have priced it accordingly to allow for some time in the workshop between events. Nothing is a massive job or even that necessary but here are a few things we would do if it was ours:
- Paint touch ups
- Re-route the blower pipe under the cladding tins
- Paint the inside of the tender to protect it
- Sort the leaking safety valves. They lift properly at full pressure but do let by before
- Sort the knock on the top end (sounds worse on the video than in person).

The engine has been steamed multiple times and it does everything you can ask of it with ease, the bones of it are a good engine and hope we are not being overly critical with the description, its just not quite up to the same standard as most of our "ready to rally" engines as it stands. We can of course undertake some or all of the above suggested works for the new owner and would be happy to quote accordingly.

The boiler is reported to be in sound condition with good thicknesses throughout, water feed is through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector. It steams freely and is easy to get along with.

Overall this engine could be a little cracker for someone and can be enjoyed straight from collection this rally season and ideal for someone who enjoys a few hours in the workshop just as much as they do pottering around the rally field.
