3" McLaren Road Loco Project

We are pleased to offer for sale this very well advanced 3” McLaren road loco project. Based on the impressive 10NHP full size engine, McLarens in all sizes come out a large and very powerful engine for their scale and even the 3” would be a strong performer on the road as well as the rallyfield.

The engine has been previously steamed and can be seen running on compressed air. Workmanship so far is to a very high standard, if the engine is completed to the same standard it will be a very fine model indeed. 3” McLarens do not come on the market very often however once completed we expect one of this quality to be worth £20-22,0000.

The steel boiler is commercial made by Franklin and Bell and comes with all the relevant paperwork, please note it predates CE marking requirements.

The main job left to complete the engine is building of the belly tanks and tender, a steel former is included for the belly tank ends. The tender can be finished either as the conventional design or the popular tub arrangement as seen on many McLarens. With the right builder we see no reason why the engine couldn’t be completed within a few months and ready for the 2022 rally season.

The remaining castings left to complete the engine are included in the sale, these are mainly for the steering and brake assembly. Also included is steel sheet and wood for the boiler tins, wire rope for the winch drum and 2 sets of drawings.
