On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale this very nicely made 6" Ruston Proctor Traction engine. Due to health reason the engine has been unused for about 8 years and now requires a fresh hydraulic & steam test and general recommissioning before rallying this season.

The engine has been built to a high standard throughout and requires time rather than much expense to bring it back to full health. As you can see on the videos we have had it running on compressed air and ticks over better than some engines on the rallyfield! The engine is road registered and fitted with vulcanised rubber tyres all round, the Rustons are quite high geared in top so get on well on road runs.

The engine is based on a small full size Steam Tractor as such comes out similar size overall to a 4" Traction Engine however they sit considerably taller and feel a much chunkier engine with more power. Length 175cm, Width: 72cm, Height: 132cm

The engine comes with some previous boiler reports and material paperwork. It was stored drained out. We have done thickness checks all over and got good readings with no areas of concern. The firebox is known for wearing out relatively quickly on these as normally made form 1/4" plate, this one looks to have used 3/8" from new so will give a much longer life. You would be welcome to have your inspector come and check the engine over before purchase if so desired.

Although listed as requiring works should you want a ready to run rally for the season we would be happy to help with this and recommission the engine in our workshop over the coming months. We would budget around £5000 for the works which would include, strip down and thorough clean up, plus sort out any jobs and a full hydraulic and steam test by an independent inspector.

For further information or to arrange a viewing please do not hestiate to contact us, as always we are happy to consider all steam and vintage vehicles part exchange where possible.

Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
