We are pleased to advertise for sale this highly desirable Stanley Type B Steam Car. A regular and successful participant in the London to Brighton run, this car is presented in lovely original condition and is in very good working order. At the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed it was presented with the '120 Years Stanley Cartier Award' and proudly comes with the winning Silver Plate to commemorate this coveted achievement.

Unlike most, this example seems to have always been in running order and kept on the road with ongoing care and maintenance, rather than a full strip down and rebuild. The bodywork has had attention over the years but the engine and pumps are believed to be all original and when in use runs almost silently. It is regarded by the Veteran Car Club (VCC) as the most original Stanley of this era they have seen.

 

One part which fortunately isn't the original is the boiler which was replaced in 2015 with a complete new unit. The owner has also installed hydraulic disc brakes for safer operation on modern roads, these are cleverly hidden under the car and operate on the engine not the wheels.

For those looking to take part in the London to Brighton run, the car is supplied with the relevant dating document from the VCC. The Certificate of Date No 1980 states the car as a Type A but it is registered as a Type B. The car was built in the year Stanley switched from Type A to Type B, the difference between the two designs we are unsure of but any information would be welcomed.

​

The car comes with a specially made hydraulic jack which allows the car to be run when stationary, great for displaying the car at shows and pumping water into the boiler off the driven pump. Also supplied is a custom made waterproof cover,  a folder of information and interesting articles, one of which we have included here.

Overall a lovely and original Stanley in great working condition, perfect for use on the London to Brighton run or to enjoy at your own pace and events.
