4" Burrell Traction Engine
A very nicely made example of the popular 4” Burrell Traction engine to the LSM design and completed in 2002. On arrival we spent an enjoyable day steaming the engine and apart from nipping up on the gauge glass it ran perfectly all day.
Completed in 2002 the engine has been built to a very good standard and been kept in top condition mechanically. It does everything you could ask of 4” Traction engine, steams up quickly, easy to fire, runs sweetly, ticks along well on the road, is road registered and has plenty of power for hauling family and friends.
The steel boiler was made by LSM in 1993 and has been tested commercially in recent years. Reports show the boiler to remain in very good condition with minimal wastage in any areas. Water feed is through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector.
When new with the full lining scheme I would imagine this was a really stunning engine and although still perfectly presentable as it is some areas especially the boiler barrel has a white speckle coming through under the maroon paint. We will be re-painting the smokebox in the coming days with a new coat of heatproof gloss paint. The paint is probably the only negative I can say about the engine at all.
Overall a very nice, honest traction engine which has been well looked after. It comes with a full set of firing irons, the matching driving trolley and all the necessary consumables to get you started. A full days tuition is included as well. The riding trailer shown in the videos is available subject to separate negotiation. Should you prefer, this design of Burrell is also large enough to fit a driving seat to the tender rather than having a separate trolley.
All steam and vintage vehicle part exchanges considered. Transport and export can also be arranged.
