We are pleased to offer for sale this complete rally outfit consisting of a well made 4" Burrell Traction Engine, sturdy engine trailer, Bateson box trailer for transport and all the other bits and pieces you could want for rallying, simply hitch up and take straight to a steam rally.
Completed in 2020 the engine is in good condition throughout, it runs well and is quieter than most through the drivetrain with very little mechanical noise coming from the engine when trundling along. Fitted with rubber tyres it is also good for road use as well and on the rally field.
The welded steel boiler was originally completed in 2000 however was not put into service until the engine was completed some 20 years later so has only seen 4 years use. Water feed is through a crank driven pump and reliable steam injector. Including in the paperwork file is the original material certs etc.
It would be fair to say the builder was much better with a lathe handle than a lining brush. The paintwork in general has gone on well but the lining is pretty terrible, I am not normally one to criticize as I know how hard it is to do but it does need mentioning, although from a distance doesn't actually look too bad. To be fair this is the only thing that lets the engine down slightly the rest of it is really quite good and is a nice well-sorted Burrell.
The riding trailer is well-thought out and fitted with a water tank, pump and 12 volt battery. It is a cannibalised mobility scooter so is a sturdy thing and for ease of transport flatpacks down.
The Bateson road trailer is an ideal for the set up, everything fits in nicely all be it snug. Box dimensions are 8' x 5' x 5' with a gross weight of just 1300kg so can be towed by most family cars comfortably. Inside is shelving for all the bits and bobs, a 12 volt winch and battery are also fitted to ease loading of the engine. Should the trailer not be required we can reduce the price accordingly.
Included are lots of other bits and bobs including firing irons, coal, oil cans, extension chimney cleaning stuff etc so a great starter kit for someone entering the world of miniature traction engines.
For further information or to arrange a viewing please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please note the engine has had a good wipe over rather than a proper clean and polish which we will get round to at some point, we are just playing catch up after the summer holidays and an influx of engines!
Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
