For someone looking for a project but not a full build this 3" Allchin Traction Engine could be a great option as it is due a new boiler. Built to the "Royal Chester" design it comes out a large engine, considerably bigger than the equivalent scale Burrell and Marshall.

The engine steams and goes well with plenty of power, the top works had a lot of work done in recent years by the previous owner so mechanically she is a pretty sound engine. Cosmetically the engine had started to undergo a thorough repaint using Craftmaster coach enamel and the areas that have been done so far have been done to a good standard, most of the paint to finish is included with the sale.

Unfortunately on the annual inspection the boiler has been condemned due to thinning on the crown, it is not repairable to the standard to pass a commercial inspection so is sold requiring replacement. The boiler is currently steel but there is no reason a copper one couldn't fitted if preferred as approved drawings for both options are available. We would be happy to show buyers the engine running on compressed air however due to insurance limits we cannot steam it.

Overall a nice and worthwhile project for someone to undertake considering an Allchin with a good boiler and nicely finished would be worth around £12-13000.

Viewing and collection is welcomed from our premises in Suffolk alternatively we would be happy to strap it to a pallet for delivery which is around £120 for UK mainland.

Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
