One of only a handful left in the world and the only working example in the UK we are pleased to advertise this  Marshall Traction engine No 87843 which has undergone a full and extensive restoration.

The engine was originally supplied to Marshall agents Meslin of Riga Latvia where it spent all its working life. Repatriated sometime in the 1990s, restoration was started in 2011 after entering the custodianship of Stephen Brett from well-known boilermaker Alex Hume. The engine remained with Alex who completed extensive boiler work as although the firebox was in good condition the barrel and tubeplate required replacement. Other works at this time included fabrication or replacement as necessary of the man stand, bunkers, drawbar, rear axle, suspension boxes, cylinder lubricator, drive pinions and suspension springs. The engine was first steamed in 2011.

Shortly after it was then sold through Preston Services to the current owner who has finished the engine to a very high standard. This included the addition of the feed water heater and water pump. The engine is presented in her original Marshall Maroon livery as specified on the build sheet.

Often British engines produced for export are somewhat functional in appearance. However, the Marshall still retains much of the style and proportions of a domestic product but with the interesting features often only seen on these export designs.

Interested parties will be able to view the engine in steam at a number of rallies this summer season.

The owner is looking for a slightly smaller engine (3 or 5 ton tractor) so may be interested in part-ex deal.
