Fowler 3-Speed Road Locomotive
Steam Test Exp:
On behalf of the owners we are pleased to offer for sale the stunning Fowler 3-Speed Road Loco “Windrush”
Fowler 14925 left the Leeds works in 1917 and was originally built as a 2 Speed Winding and Hauling Engine. The TE2 design is often referred to as the “Russian Fowlers” as were original destined for use with Russian Military for moving their heavy guns and ammunition, the addition of the winding gear was for pulling equipment out of the muddy battlefields. The TE2 were a high specification engine sharing many parts and design features of the Fowler R3 Road loco including the Fowler Patent Spring gear. The 3rd speed was added in late80s/early 90s and the original winding gear has now been fitted to another engine "Robert the Bruce"
Windrush is presented in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition and offers the new owner a fantastic opportunity to purchase an engine that wants for nothing. Recent works have included new belly tanks and tender, new smokebox and chimney, complete top-end overhaul including nickel plating of the much of the motion work, new piston rings and valve refurbishment. The rubber tyres are also reported to be in virtually as-new condition. The lamps shown in the pictures are included in the sale.
The boiler received a major overhaul in 2019 with a new flanged and riveted box fitted. It has been regularly inspected by Dave Wothers and a copy of the reports can be provided for genuinely interested parties.
This fantastic engine is up for sale as the owners embark on a new project. Where possible we are happy to help with part exchanges of all steam and vintage vehicles.
